Aidil Sholeh creates Malaysian history at Vietnam Open 2026

Malaysia finally ended their wait for a men’s singles World Tour title

Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin created Malaysian badminton history at the Vietnam Open 2026, lifting the title after beating Singapore’s top seed Jason Teh 21-16, 21-14 in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.

With this result, Aidil became the first Malaysian shuttler to win a men’s singles World Tour title since Lee Zii Jia won the 2024 Australian Open. Interestingly, Zii Jia only made it to the second round in this year’s Vietnam Open.

Aidil, who won his maiden career Super 100 title, also became only the second Malaysian men’s singles champion in Vietnam Open history, after Roslin Hashim won the title in 2007. The win has cemented Aidil’s status as one of Malaysia’s top shuttlers and earned him a cash prize of $9,000.

Aidil Sholeh shines in Vietnam Open

After Lee Zii Jia made an early exit in the second round of the Vietnam Open, Aidil was left to carry Malaysia’s challenge at the BWF World Tour event in Ho Chi Minh City.

The independent shuttler secured a straight-games win over world No. 33 Jason Teh, marking his second win in as many matches over the Singaporean. This also marked a personal best for Aidil, who had previously come close to winning a Super 100 title twice.

The Malaysian had finished runner-up at the Indonesia Masters II in 2024 before reaching another final at the Al Ain Masters in Abu Dhabi last year. Now, he has finally won a BWF World Tour title.
