The popular shuttlers trained together prior to the start of the All England Open.
In the world of badminton, the All England Open is a stage for legends to emerge and champions to be crowned. This year’s tournament, which concluded on March 17, was no exception, offering its share of drama and unexpected turns. While the event may not have unfolded as planned for Malaysian ace Lee Zii Jia and India’s pride PV Sindhu, it became the backdrop for an inspiring display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
A clip of them training together became one of the headlines of the latest edition with fans excited to see two of the most popular figures in the circuit sparring together. The now viral video also led to fans debating among themselves whether Sindhu and Zii Jia could ever pair up in mixed doubles.
Joining the fun, the media team of All England Open also posed this question to both shuttlers. Sindhu responded with a beaming smile, “It will work really well, he is a hard hitter too.” Lee, with his characteristic humility, admitted, “To be honest, I am not good at mixed doubles, and it depends on her if she wants, but I would love more chances to train with her.” Check their full response in the below video.
Earlier, a viral video clip showed PV Sindhu and Lee Zii jia practicing together before the start of the All England Open 2024 tournament. Both shuttlers were also later asked about this rare occasion of shuttlers from different nations sparring together.
To which the Malaysian had responded that it came about after his compatriot’s Ng Tze Yong’s sudden withdrawal due to a spinal disc issue, leaving Lee without a sparring partner. The strong relationship between Lee’s coach and Sindhu’s trainers then paved the way for this unique collaboration.
