India’s top doubles players will be absent from the tournament.

The Badminton Asia Championships 2025 is one of the most prestigious continental tournaments, attracting top shuttlers from across Asia. However, as the tournament draws closer, several big names have withdrawn from the competition, altering the dynamics of the event. These withdrawals have affected all five categories, making the competition more unpredictable.

In men’s singles, Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia is one of the most notable absentees. The former All England champion and Paris Olympics bronze medallist has opted out of the tournament due to a continuing injury, which could significantly impact the men’s singles draw.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is another major name who has withdrawn from the tournament. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist is still recovering from an injury, which has forced him to pull out of the Badminton Asia Championships 2025. His absence is a significant setback for Indonesian badminton fans, who will now pin their hopes on reigning champion Jonatan Christie to defend the title.

The women’s singles category has seen some major withdrawals as well. Paris Olympic Gold winner An Se-young, who has been dealing with injuries, will not be competing. Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, who has been a consistent performer in recent tournaments, has also pulled out.

Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, a former world champion, has continued her trend of missing events and will not be participating in the Badminton Asia Championships this year.

The men’s doubles category has also been impacted, with two major pairs pulling out. India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who have been one of the top-performing pairs on the circuit, will be missing the tournament, which will be a big blow for the Indian fans as well as to the doubles competition.

Four Chinese men’s doubles pairs had qualified for the Badminton Asia Championships 2025: Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang, He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu, Chen Boyang/Liu Yi, and Xie Haonan/Zeng Weijie. However, He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu have withdrawn from the tournament, reducing China’s representation in the men’s doubles draw.

The most affected category appears to be women’s doubles, where four pairs have pulled out. South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee, one of the strongest pairs in recent years, will not be participating. India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who have shown impressive performances on the World Tour, have also withdrawn.

Thailand’s Aimsaard sisters, known for their aggressive gameplay, and Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan will also be absent, making way for other pairs to take advantage of their withdrawals.
