Lakshya Sen moves two spots in latest BWF rankings after solid Thomas Cup 2024 showing

Several shuttlers saw their world rankings rise in the latest BWF rankings update from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) following the Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 team championships.
Leading the way is 22-year-old Lakshya Sen, who jumped two spots to world no. 11 after an impressive showing at Thomas Cup 2024. Sen won three of his four singles matches even as defending champions India bowed out in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 loss to China in the Thomas Cup. Even in defeat against China, Sen emerged as a bright spot by defeating reigning Asian Games gold medalist Li Shifeng.
The Almora native, who has already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, will now shift his focus to preparing for the upcoming Games. Sen reached a career-high ranking of world no. #6 in November 2022 before slipping to 25th in April of last year.
Other Indian singles players also made positive moves in the latest rankings. Isharani Baruah, runners-up at the Kazakhstani International this year and with a solid Uber Cup performance, jumped eight places to world no. 75. Unnati Hooda rose four rungs to 61st.

In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy maintained his position at ninth after winning bronze at the World Championships and Asian Games last year. Kidambi Srikanth is 25th and Priyanshu Rajawat 32nd. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu stayed at 14th in the women’s singles.
The Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who briefly reached world no. 1 in 2022, held firm at third despite some recent absences. Compatriots Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are 21st in women’s doubles, with Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand 28th.
