Lee Zii Jia suffers biggest drop among top 10; Lakshya Sen India's top-ranked singles shuttler in latest BWF rankings

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty are the highest ranked Indian shuttlers in BWF rankings.

The latest list of rankings in Badminton as updated on October 15 has been released by the BWF. Amongst the top shuttlers, Lee Zii Jia has suffered the biggest drop among the top 10 in all categories as he exited from the top five. The Malaysian shuttler dropped three spots and is currently ranked world No #7 with 80,566 points. Meanwhile India’s Lakshya Sen climbed two spots and is in 17th position.

Sen has collected 56,368 points and is the highest ranked Indian shuttler in the singles category. He has featured in two events since the Paris Olympics but is yet to register a win. Sen competed in the Arctic Open and Denmark Open but could not record victories. He is not the only player whose form has been affected ever since the summer games.

Jia has been suffering from injuries and recovery issues since competing in the games. The 26-year-old had shared that his body had become more stiff, especially his knees, elbow and back during intesne traning sessions. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury. Jia has played in 21 events so far this season while Sen has played 17 events.

The men’s singles is led by China’s Shi Yu Qi followed by Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen and Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie. Amongst Indians HS Prannoy is the next highest ranked Indian after Sen in men’s singles as he is currently placed 23rd. Coming in 34th is Priyanshu Rajawat as Kiran George and Kidambi Srikanth are ranked 38th, 39th respectively. Sathish Kumar Karunakaran is in 43rd place as Malaysian shuttlers, Leong Jun Hao is ranked world No # 30 while 20-year-old Justin Hoh is 50th.

PV Sindhu drops down in BWF rankings

Two-time Olympic medallist, PV Sindhu is currently ranked world No #18 after dropping down two places with 56, 612 points. Malvika Bansod after registering crucial wins over the past few weeks has climbed two spots to the 35th position. Aakarshi Kashyap is ranked 41st as Unnati Hooda jumped five positions to be in 41st place.

Anupama Upadhyaya is ranked 50th as there are five Indian shuttlers in the top 50 under women’s singles. Malaysia only has Goh Jin Wei in the top 50 of the rankings. China’s Chen Yu Fei leads the attack as South Korea’s An Se Young is second. Wang Zhi Yi is ranked third.

In men’s doubles, China’s Liang Wei Keng are in the top of the rankings. Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia/ Soh Woo Yik are in fourth place while the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty are in seventh position with 79,250 points. Goh Sze Fei/ Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia are ranked just below the Indians.

Tanisha Cristo, Ashwini Ponappa top ranked Indian pair in women’s doubles BWF rankings

Tanisha Cristo, Ashwini Ponappa are ranked 16th in women’s doubles with 54,380 points. The next best ranked Indian pair are Treesa Jolly/ Gayatri Gopichand who are 21st. Over to Malaysia, Tan Pearly/ Thinaah Muralitharan are ranked No #7. China continues to lead the field with Chen Qing Chen/ Jia Yi Fan in women’s doubles. In mixed doubles, the top ranking is again held by China’s Zheng Si Wei/ Hunag Ya Qiong.

Malaysia’s Cheng Tang Jie/ Tse Ying Suet are in 9th place as their fellow countrymates Goh Soon Huat/ Lai Shevon Jamie come next. India’s top ranked pair in mixed doubles are B. Sumeeth Reddy/ N. Sikki Reddy as they dropped down two places to 33rd position.
