Putri Kusuma Wardani achieves career-best position; India's PV Sindhu suffers drop in latest BWF rankings

Lakshya Sen remains India’s top-ranked singles shuttler in BWF rankings.

The latest BWF rankings has been released as of November 12 where the top shuttlers have seen their rankings remain the same. Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia has risen to a career-best ranking in women’s singles. After defeating China’s Han Qian Xi to clinch the BWF Korea Masters 2024 title, Wardani has entered the top 20 of the rankings for the first time. She is now ranked World No #19.

With 17 events played this season, she has amassed 53,800 ranking points to jump a place above India’s PV Sindhu who is now in 20th position. The Indian shuttler dropped down a place and is looking for redemption in the final few events remaining this year. Sindhu was ranked No #16 a month ago and has been out of form in the past few events.

Malvika Bansod, earlier ranked 35th is now ranked 36th and did not feature in the Korea and Japan Masters. Aakarshi Kashyad climbed two places and is ranked 44th. But the biggest jump among Indian players has been of Anupama Upadhyaya who has jumped five spots to be ranked 48th.

South Korea’s An Se Young continues to head the rankings in women’s singles. With 103,267 points collected this year, she has a hefty lead over second ranked Chen Yu Fei of China who has 95,182 points. Goh Jin Wei is the highest ranked Malaysian in women’s singles as she is placed 40th.

Lakshya Sen maintains top position in BWF rankings

In the men’s singles rankings, Shi Yu Qi has extended his lead in the top with 99,315 points. Viktor Axelsen is in second place with 93,790 points. Lakshya Sen remains the top ranked player in singles from India as he is in 17th place with 56,730 points. Although his form has not been providing wins, his rankings remain unchanged.

The next highest ranked Indian in men’s singles is HS Prannoy who is in 22nd place and Priyanshu Rajawat in 35th position. The major shift was seen in the rankings of Kiran George as his recent performances saw him promoted five places to 36th position. Amongst the Malaysian players, Lee Zii Jia is ranked seventh and Leong Jun Hao is the next highest ranked player from the nation on 31st place.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty lose ranking points

The top ranked Indians in the BWF rankings are the men’s duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty. They are ranked in the seventh position similar to last month but lost over 2000 ranking points as they now have 77,150 points. The rankings in the men’s doubles is led by Liang Wei Keng/ Wang Chang of China with 104, 018 points.

Korea Masters 2024 champions, Aaron Chia/ Soh Woo Yik are in sixth place with 80,315 points. Fellow country men, Goh Sze Fei/ Nur Izzudin are ranked eighth with 76, 986 points.

Tanisha Cristo, Ashwini Ponappa rise in in women’s doubles BWF rankings

The women’s doubles rankings witnessed South Korea’s Baek Ha Na/ Lee So Hee dominate the proceedings in women’s doubles with 98,416 ranking points. They are closely followed by Chen Qing Chen/ Jia Yi Fan who have pocketed 98,206 points. India’s Tanisha Cristo/ Ashwini Ponappa jumped up two places to 14th with 52,730 points. In 20th place are Treesa Jolly/ Gayatri Gopichand with 49,484 points after playing 19 events.

Tan Pearly/ Thinaah Muralitharan are the only Malaysian pair in the top ten of women’s doubles with 73,193 points. Meanwhile in mixed doubles, China’s Zheng Si Wei/ Hunag Ya Qiong look to end the season on top as they have 104,100 points and a 5000 point lead over second ranked Feng Yan Zhe/ Huang Dong Ping. The top three positions in mixed doubles rankings are currently been held by China.

There are two Malaysian players ranked in the top ten of mixed doubles. Chen Tang Jie/ Toh Ee Wei are in ninth position with 66,240 points as Goh Soon Huat/ Lai Shevon Jemie are up next with 64,170 points. India’s B. Sumeeth Reddy/ N. Sikki Reddy are now ranked 32nd with 37,820 points as Sathish Kumar Karunakaran/ Aadya Variyath are in 35th place with 34,310 points.
