Satwik-Chirag re-enter top 10 of BWF rankings; Unnati Hooda climbs to 31st position

Satwik-Chirag climb three spots in the latest BWF rankings.
India’s top men’s badminton doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have made a comeback into the top 10 of the BWF World Rankings. As of Wednesday, they secured the 9th position. The duo will return to action at the Macau Open 2025 as the top Indian pair.
The Asian Games gold medallists are yet to win a title this season, despite several close calls. It seems they’ve been battling a curse of semifinal exits. Last week, the duo reached the semifinals of the BWF China Open, helping them climb three spots in the world rankings to re-enter the top 10.
The Satwik-Chirag delivered a brilliant form in Changzhou, but their campaign ended in the semifinals with a 13-21, 17-21 defeat to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. This was their fourth semifinal exit of the season, having previously fallen just short at the Singapore Open, India Open, and Malaysia Open.
Indian’s top men’s singles star, Lakshya Sen, also saw a shift in rankings, moving to World No. 17 from 19 after an early exit from the China Open. He lost in the round of 32 to China’s Li Shifeng.
On the other hand, the young sensation in women’s singles, Unnati Hooda, continues to rise. The 17-year-old jumped four places in the women’s singles rankings, moving from 35 to 31 after reaching the quarterfinals at the China Open.
Despite her loss to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi (16-21, 12-21), Unnati stunned everyone by defeating two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu in a thrilling round of 16 all-Indian clash, winning with the scoreline of 21-16, 19-21, 21-13. Sindhu is currently ranked 15th in the BWF women’s singles list.
