BWF World Tour 2025 season to kick-off with Malaysia Open: Report

No Indian player has ever won the Malaysia Open.
The BWF World Tour 2025 is set to commence with the Malaysia Open next year. The BWF Super 1000 tournament will take place from January 7 to 12 in Kuala Lumpur.
The Malaysia Open holds greater significance in the BWF calendar as all shuttlers aim to get a positive start to the season. In 2024, the tournament was held from January 9 to 14. Denmark’s Anders Antonsen won the men’s singles at the Super 1000 event, while South Korea’s An Se-young lifted the women’s singles title.
Chinese pairs dominated the men’s and women’s doubles categories in Malaysia. Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang were the men’s doubles champions, while Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning emerged victorious in the women’s doubles.

The Indian team had a poor campaign at the 2024 Malaysia Open, as only Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty managed to reach the semifinals. PV Sindhu didn’t participate in the tournament due to an injury, while HS Prannoy and Srikanth Kidambi were eliminated in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Currently, the Indian team have shifted their focus to the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup. The Indian men’s team have already left for Chengdu, where the tournament is set to take place. The competition will start on April 27 and the final will be played on May 5.

The Indian team for the 2024 Thomas Cup includes HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George in the singles action, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, MR Arjun, Dhruv Kapila, and Sai Pratheek are in doubles. India will play their first match against Thailand on Saturday, April 27. Later, they will face England on April 29 and Indonesia on May 1.
