BWF World Tour Finals 2024: All you need to know about prize money
The prize pool is the highest among all the badminton tournaments in the world.
The year-end BWF World Tour Finals 2024 is set to take place from December 11 to December 15 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Xiacheng, Hangzhou, China.
The uniqueness and significance of the tournament is that it features the top eight players/pairs of the calendar year (maximum of two players/pairs from a nation), in every category, fighting it out for top honours in one of the most prestigious badminton tournaments of the year. Thus, we get to see the most in-form players this year fighting it out, implying that the quality of action in almost every match is very high.
Apart from Viktor Axelsen in men’s singles, the Paris Olympic gold medalists in all sections are present in the Chinese tournament. In total, 10 out of the 15 Olympic medallists are competing in the year-end tournament. The event is also significant because it marks the farewell for a number of celebrated names in the sport, including reigning Olympic Champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin and Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong.
With the form of the top Indian shuttlers having fluctuated throughout the year, combined with a number of withdrawals in various tournaments since this was an Olympic year, the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are India’s only representatives in the competition.
