Top Indian duo Satwik-Chirag withdraw from the BWF Canada Open 2025.

As the BWF Canada Open 2025 gears up to kick off in Ontario, some top badminton players have withdrawn from the Super 300 event. The event will begin on July 1 and will run till July 6, featuring a prize money of USD 240,000.

In men’s singles, India’s HS Prannoy, Tharun Mannepalli, and Meiraba Luwang Maisnam have withdrawn, dealing a blow to the Indian men’s campaign. Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong, who entered with a protected ranking, has also opted out. Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen and Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei are other notable absentees.

In the women’s singles category, Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China will not be competing, alongside Indian talents Anupama Upadhyaya, Anmol Kharb, Aakarshi Kashyap, and Tanvi Sharma, who have also pulled out, leaving the draw wide open for dark horses to step up.

In men’s doubles, India’s top duo and former World No. 1 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have withdrawn from the tournament, marking a significant absence. Women’s doubles is similarly impacted with the withdrawal of China’s Li Wen Mei/Luo Yi, along with fellow Chinese pair Chen Qing Chen/Wang Ting Ge.

The mixed doubles field has seen one of the largest exit lists. China’s Jiang Zhen Bang/Huang Ke Xin and Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, along with several other pairs, have also decided to skip the event.

While these withdrawals impact the depth of the draw, they also pave the way for upcoming players to seize the moment, earn valuable points, and possibly deliver breakout performances on the international stage.
