All three Indians are now a win away from confirming a medal.
India delivered a stellar performance on Day 4 of the BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris, with multiple shuttlers advancing to the quarter-finals and keeping the nation’s medal hopes alive across different categories.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu produced the performance of the day, stunning World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi of China with a commanding 21-19, 21-15 victory in the Round of 16. The 30-year-old Indian showcased vintage form, combining aggression with composure to extend her remarkable unbeaten record against Chinese shuttlers at the World Championships to 8-0.
Walking into the contest as an underdog, Sindhu defied expectations with a dominant display. After a closely contested first game, the Indian ace took control in the second, showing what has made her one of badminton’s most successful players.
This victory marks Sindhu’s progression to her first World Championships quarter-final since 2021.
India’s premier men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, delivered another masterclass to defeat sixth seeds Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang of China.
The ninth-seeded Indian duo battled back after dropping the first game 19-21, before leveling with a dominant 21-15 second game and sealing the decider 21-17.
Their victory over the Olympic silver medallists underlines their intent to go all the way. Having won bronze at the 2022 World Championships, Satwik-Chirag look determined to upgrade to gold this time.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto scripted history by becoming the first Indian mixed doubles pair in 7 years to reach the World Championships quarterfinals. They defeated Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in a thrilling contest: 19-21, 21-12, 21-15.

However, it wasn’t all good news for India as HS Prannoy suffered a narrow defeat to second seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark. Despite having three match points, Prannoy went down 7-21, 21-17, 21-23 in a high-intensity battle lasting over an hour.
The quarterfinal matches promise exciting encounters as India’s remaining shuttlers carry the nation’s hopes for World Championships glory in Paris.
Sindhu will now take on World No. 9 Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia in the quarterfinals. Satwik and Chirag are set for a high-stakes clash against Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, aiming to avenge their Olympic quarterfinal defeat from last year in Paris.
