Gayatri Gopichand and doubles partner Treesa has pulled out of Uber Cup due to injury concerns.

Indian badminton star Gayatri Gopichand recently gave an interview to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), where she revealed that she carries around six to seven rackets with her at different tournaments.

Gayatri also showed a broken racket after talking about the other items she keeps with herself during badminton tournaments. She said: “Hi, this is Gayatri Gopichand Pullela. And today, I’m going to show you what’s in my bag. So, I have my bottle. A banana, keep eating food. I also have my accreditation card. I just broke a racket.”

She was later asked about the number of rackets she brings with her during tournaments, to which she replied, “Normally I bring six to seven.” She then continued, “And I have my wallet. I think there’s a watch. Oh yeah, this is my favourite watch. So yeah, that’s it.”

The Uber Cup is set to start on April 27 in Chengdu, China. India has been drawn into Group A alongside Canada, Singapore, and the hosts, China. However, the pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Tressa Jolly has pulled out of the tournament likely due to injury concerns.

India has announced a young squad that consists of Anmol Kharb, Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha, Isharani Baruah, Shruti Mishra, Priya Konjengbam, Simran Singhi, and Ritika Thaker.

Gayatri Gopichand, daughter of 2001 All England Open winner Pullela Gopichand, is one of the rising stars in the Indian scenario. Teaming up with Tressa Jolly, she reached the quarterfinals of the French Open last month. After defeating Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa in the first round, they took down the likes of seventh-seeded Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.

It’s been almost two years since Gopichand and Jolly started playing together, and since then, the Indian pair has reached the semifinals of the All-England Open twice (2022 and 2023) and also won bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2022 apart from also being part of the Indian women’s team that clinched a historic gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships. Moreover, they also reached their career-best position pf WR-14 last year.

However, Gayatri-Treesa are struggling with their form in 2024. After losing the first match at the Spain Masters, the Indian pair suffered a disappointing straight games defeat against China’s Sheng Shu Lui and Ning Tan at the Badminton Asia Championships last week.
