He Bingjiao retired from badminton at the age of 27.
Chinese badminton player He Bingjiao has announced her retirement at the age of 27. The news came to light when her name was missing from the latest world rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The BWF later confirmed He’s retirement in an article.
He Bingjiao, who recently won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, will no longer compete in international tournaments. However, she plans to continue playing in domestic competitions in China.
Throughout her career, He Bingjiao has been a force to be reckon with in the badminton world. She has won an impressive 12 world tour titles and reached as high as number 5 in the world rankings in November 2022. She has also been part of China’s winning teams in the Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup, two major team competitions in badminton, on two occasions each.

5. Youth Olympic Champion and Junior Success
He Bingjiao’s early career was marked by notable achievements at the junior level. In 2014, she won the Youth Olympic Games by beating top seed Akane Yamaguchi in a three-set final. She also earned bronze medals at the 2014 and 2015 Junior World Championships and at the 2013 Asian Junior Championships.
4. Asian Games Medallist
He Bingjiao won her first individual medal in Asian Games at the 2022 Asian Games, where she competed as the fourth seed. She progressed through the rounds by defeating Natsuki Naidara of Japan and R Maharjan of Nepal, and then beat PV Sindhu to reach the semi-finals. She lost to eventual champion An Se-young in the semi-finals. Additionally, He Bingjiao was part of the Chinese women’s team that won silver medals in the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.

3. 12 World Tour Titles
Throughout her career, He Bingjiao has won 12 world tour titles, including five BWF World Tour titles, two BWF Super Series titles, and five Grand Prix titles. Her first title was the Vietnam Open in 2013, where she defeated Hera Desi of Indonesia. She claimed a major victory at the Japan Open in 2016 by overcoming compatriot Sun Yu. In 2022, He Bingjiao won four titles, including two Super 750 events—the Denmark Open and the French Open—where she beat Chen Yu Fei and Carolina Marin, respectively.
2. Double World Championship Medalist
He Bingjiao has secured two bronze medals at the BWF World Championships. Her first major success came in 2018 when she reached the semi-finals as the sixth seed, defeating top seed Tai Tzu Ying before losing to Carolina Marin. Her second bronze came in 2021, where she reached the semi-finals again, this time as the eighth seed, after winning her quarter-final match against Han Yue.
1. Paris Olympic Silver Medallist
At the Paris Olympics in 2024, He Bingjiao earned her first Olympic medal, taking home the silver in badminton. The 27-year-old shuttler had an impressive tournament, winning all her group-stage matches. In the knockout rounds, she defeated PV Sindhu in the Round of 16 and overcame Chen Yu Fei, the defending champion, in the quarter-finals. He Bingjiao advanced to the final after Carolina Marin withdrew due to injury in the semi-finals. In the final, she was defeated by An Se-young with scores of 13-21, 16-21.
