The BWF World Championships 2025 will be held in Paris from August 25 to 31.

After a break of one year due to the scheduling constraints posed by the Olympics, the BWF World Championships are set to return in the same city which hosted the quadrennial extravaganza in 2024: Paris. The 29th edition of the event is set to be held from 25th August to 31st August.

This is arguably the most prestigious tournament on the BWF calendar. While there is no prize money on offer, the points won will hugely improve the rankings. More significantly, winning a medal at the World Championships brings great prestige to oneself as well as the nation.

The best players in the world will be in action. In the men’s singles category, Shi Yu Qi will be looking to return to the podium, having last clinched a medal at the competition in 2018. In the women’s singles event, top seed An Se Young will be the favourite to retain her crown.

India has had a consistent record in the tournament, with at least one medal having made way to the country in every edition since 2011.

The record is in threat though, considering that the shuttlers have been in poor form, as depicted by the fact that there is no Indian present in the top eight seedings in any of the five categories.

The contingent would be looking to rise together at the marquee event after a poor showing this year. Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty will be the brightest contenders for a medal at Paris.

While PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy (the nation’s only medalist at the 2023 edition in Copenhagen) have been a pale shadow of themselves recently, their experience in big tournaments is undeniable.
