Kiran George will be the only Indian player competing in BWF Korea Masters 2024.
The Asian swing has been resumed in the BWF tour with Korea Masters getting underway. The initial list had over 289 players in five categories but the event has now seen multiple players withdrawing from the event. The withdrawals have been from all five categories as players from Asia are leading the list.
In the men’s singles, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-yi had announced his absence from the event two weeks back. Malaysia’s Soong Joo Ven had also confirmed he would be skipping the event a week back joining fellow countrymen Micaiah Jien Zheng Chai. Cheam June Wei became the third men’s singles player to withdraw from Korea Masters.
Among the Indian players, Priyanshu Rajawat and Sameer Verma had taken the decision of skipping the event last month. The latest withdrawal is player in form Ayush Shetty as he had reached the semi-finals of Hylo Open. He was the only other Indian in the men’s singles main draw alongside Kiran George.
In women’s singles, Defending champion Kim Ga-Eun will not be present in the court this time. China’s Cai Yan Yan will also not be seen in action as she was supposed to play against Thuy Linh Nguyen in an intense opening round clash.

Two-time quarterfinalist in Korea Masters, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has been the highest ranked player to withdraw from the event in women’s singles. The world No #8 is suffering from a back injury which forced her retire mid match during the semi-finals of the Denmark Open last month.
Winner of Malaysia International challenge this season, Riko Gunji is also among the withdrawal list. The Japanese shuttler had reached the quarterfinals at Macau Open in September.
Among the Indian shuttlers, Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda declared their absence last month. Samiya Imad Farooqui was the only Indian left in the women’s singles main draw but she too has now withdrawn from the event. In the mixed doubles event, nine pairs have withdrawn from the event including three Malaysian pairs.
