Korea Open 2024: Updated Schedule, fixtures, results & live streaming details
Shi Yuqi will look to regain his form after the Paris Olympics disappointment.
The badminton world’s focus shifts to Korea this week as the Korea Open 2024 gets underway on August 27. After the Japan Open, the Super 500 tournament on the BWF World Tour circuit will only be the second major BWF tournament after the Paris Olympics earlier this month.
That said, most top Indian players like Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, PV Sindhu, and Lakshya Sen who had a fantastic run in Paris won’t be participating in the tournament. Aakarshi Kashyap and Malvika Bansod will lead India’s women’s singles lineup in Korea.
Denmark’s top singles player Viktor Axelsen, who recently won his second Olympic Gold medal in Paris, would also not be participating. The Danish World No. #2 also withdrew from last week’s Japan Open.
All eyes will be on the world number #1 Shi Yuqi, who bowed out in the quarterfinals at Paris Olympics 2024 to Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand. He also lost to Alex Lanier of France last week in the semifinals of the Japan Open and would now be hoping to regain his form.
The women’s singles field is led by Akane Yamaguchi. On the other side of the draw, the experienced duo of Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung are the top seeds in Mixed doubles. They missed out on the bronze medal in Paris, losing to Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino.
