In a major blow to India, Lakshya Sen is missing from the semi-final lineup against France at Thomas Cup 2026. Sen, who gave India a perfect start in their 3-0 semi-final win over Chinese Taipei, was not named in the line-up for the crucial semi-final clash against France later today.
In his place, Ayush Shetty will start the draw for India with Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy set to play the other two singles rubber.

The 24-year-old Sen saved two match points and delivered one of the best matches of the tournament defeating World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen in a thrilling three-game battle to put India 1-0 ahead in the quarters.
The match lasted over an hour, testing both players mentally and physically. Lakshya showed strong fighting spirit, saving match points and making a brilliant comeback. He won 18-21, 22-20, 21-17.
However, the Commonwealth Games champion’s name is missing from the crucial semi-final encounter against France.

Injury forces Lakshya Sen out of semi-final clash
According to a Badminton Association of India (BAI) statement, Sen hurt his elbow while diving for a shot during his quarter-final match yesterday and as a result will not be participating in the semi-final tie today.
“Lakshya sustained an impact to his elbow following an intense quarter-final match that involved multiple dives.
“Following a thorough evaluation by the team’s medical staff, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to allow Lakshya adequate recovery time and ensure he is in optimal condition for the final, should India progress,” BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra said.
“He is currently under close medical observation and receiving all necessary support. The team remains confident and optimistic about his swift recovery and return to peak form,” he added.
On the other hand, former India coach and Sen’s mentor Vimal Kumar also informed PTI of his injury. He said, “Lakshya is dealing with a swollen playing arm, particularly around the elbow, after his fall in yesterday’s match against Chou Tien Chen. He is also struggling with blisters on his feet, hopefully Lakshya will be available for the final”.
