Madrid Spain Masters 2024: B. Sumeeth Reddy & N. Sikki Reddy bows out, India's campaign ends

Indian duo lost to Indonesia’s Rivaldy and Mentari in straight sets.
India’s journey at the Madrid Spain Masters 2024 ended in the semi-finals as B. Sumeeth Reddy and N. Sikki Reddy were knocked out of the mixed doubles event. This came after P.V. Sindhu’s campaign ended in defeat against Supanida Katethong of Thailand in a grueling match on Friday.
The mixed doubles duo suffered a 17-21, 12-21 defeat against Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari in a match lasting around 29 minutes.
In the first game (21-17), the Indonesian pair quickly gained a lead, winning four consecutive points. However, Sikki and Sumeeth fought back, leveling the scoreline at 6-6. The game remained neck-and-neck, with both pairs exchanging leads.
At 16-all, the Indians briefly took the lead, but the Indonesians responded swiftly, securing four consecutive points to reach game point. Ultimately, Rivaldy and Mentari clinched the first game with a score of 21-17.
The second game (21-12) began evenly, with both pairs exchanging serves and reaching an 8-8 scoreline. However, a familiar pattern emerged once again. Rivaldy and Mentari gained momentum, winning eight consecutive points. Their dominant display stifled Sumeeth and Sikki, who couldn’t recover. The Indonesians wrapped up the second game with a convincing 21-12 victory, sealing the match in straight sets.

Focus now shifts to the Badminton Asia Championships as far as the Indian contingent is concerned.
The Badminton Asia Championships, scheduled from 9 to 14 April 2024, will take place at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center in Ningbo, China. Premier players are expected to participate, including the Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, who will be returning after missing the Swiss Open and Spain Masters
