India medalled in three consecutive Olympic editions from 2012-2016.

Badminton has been part of the Olympics for over three decades now. It made its official entry at the summer games in 1992 at Barcelona. Since then, there has been a domination of the Asian countries in the podium.

India too has had its share of podium finishes in badminton. Female shuttlers have been leading the charge for the nation in the sport. Since London 2012, Indian shuttlers have medalled in three consecutive Olympic editions.

The past four editions including Paris Olympics 2024 have seen at least one Indian shuttler progressing to the semifinals. Let’s have a look at all the Olympic badminton medallists from India.

Badminton medals won by India at the Olympics

Saina Nehwal – Bronze medal, London 2012

Saina Nehwal has been one of the greatest badminton players for India. She set various records in the game, and it is no surprise that at the Olympics she set the benchmark again. Nehwal became the first Indian shuttler to win an Olympic medal.

PV Sindhu made sure to continue Nehwal’s legacy on the courts. She became the first Indian shuttler to reach an Olympic final. Sindhu lost in an intense battle against Carolina Marin in the final to collect the silver medal. She also became the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal at the age of 21.

Five years later, Sindhu again made history by winning the bronze at Tokyo Olympics. She became the first Indian woman to win multiple individual Olympic medals.
