The total prize pool of Malaysia Open 2026 is USD 1,450,000.

The BWF Malaysia Open 2026 is being played from January 6 to January 11 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. The first-round matches are scheduled for the first two days, while the later rounds begin on January 8.

Since it’s a BWF Super 1000 tournament, the top tier on the BWF World Tour, as well as the first tournament of the year, the biggest stars in the world are set to participate in the competition.

In singles, among all the names present in the top 10 of the BWF rankings, Thai shuttler Pornpawee Chochuwong is the only name set to be absent.

The likes of Shi Yu Qi, Anders Antonsen, Kunlavut Vitidsarn would be top contenders in the men’s singles category, while An Se Young, Wang Zhi Yi, Akane Yamaguchi among others would be gunning for glory in the corresponding women’s event.

The Indian contingent would also be looking to start on the right note. The brightest prospects are Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who were the only shuttlers from the nation to qualify for the World Tour Finals in December.

The likes of Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu, Ayush Shetty, Treesa Jolly/ Gayatri Gopichand and Dhruv Kapila/ Tanisha Crasto would also be wanting to stamp their authority early on in the year.

As mentioned above, points are awarded as per all Super 1000 events. The winner will receive 12,000 points, while the runner-up will receive 10,200 points.

Players reaching the semi-finals will receive 8,400 points, while players losing in the quarterfinals will receive 6,600 points. A second-round finish assures a player/pair of 4,800 points, while a first-round loss will mean 3,000 points.

According to BWF rules, the total prize pool for the Malaysia Open 2026 is USD 1,450,000. The winners in both singles categories will receive USD 101,500, while their counterparts in the doubles event will get USD 107,300.

The runners-up in the singles events will take home USD 49,300, while those in the doubles will receive USD 50,750. The losing semi-finalists in all five categories will obtain USD 20,300.

In the individual events, USD 7,975 is reserved for the players who lose in the quarterfinals, while in the doubles category, the losers will receive USD 9,062.50. In case of a second-round defeat, the sum on offer in the singles sections is USD 4,350, while the pairings in the three doubles categories will pocket USD 4,712.50.

Every participant in the main draw receives a portion of the prize fund, implying even first-round losers will not leave empty-handed. Each player or pair that loses in the first round will receive USD 1,450.
