PV Sindhu back in top 15, Priyanshu Rajawat achieves career-best position in latest BWF rankings

Six Indian men’s singles players are ranked inside top 50 currently
India’s upcoming star in making Priyanshu Rajawat has jumped three spots to career-best WR-28 in the latest BWF World Rankings released on July 8th (Tuesday). The youngster has been in fine form for the past few months since winning the Orleans Masters BWF 300 title. He reached the semi-finals of Australian Open 2023 last week which helped him get to his career best rank.
Other Indians in the fray in men’s singles, Mithun Manjunath – WR 43 and Kiran George – WR 49 have jumped seven and six spots respectively. The former defeated former World Champion and WR-7 Loh Kean Yew in the opening round of the Australian Open but exited in the following round. Kiran George on the other hand becomes the latest entrant into the top 50s an currently India has six players stationed inside the top 50 in men’s singles.
Meanwhile HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen maintained their respective spots from last week rankings. In the women’s section, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu got back into the top 15 after reaching the quarter-finals last week. She has jumped two places above to be positioned at WR-15. Aakarshi Kashyap is close to becoming India’s number two player in women’s singles after moving up by a spot to WR-39. Saina Nehwal has retained her ranking of 38 and is slowly moving out of the top 40s.

In the doubles category, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty retain the second spot while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand drop two spots to WR-19.
The players post the Australian Open have a two week break post which will play in the BWF World Championships scheduled to be held from August 21 to 27 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
