PV Sindhu will eye her second title of the season when she meets World No. 1 and two-time defending champion An Se Young in the women’s singles final at BWF French Open 2026. Sindhu, who is making her maiden final appearance at the Grand Paris Arena, won the Japan Open title in July.
Her opponent has just lost one match all season, winning six of the seven tournaments that she has competed in so far. Her only defeat came against Wang Zhiyi in the All England Open final way back in March.
Since then, An Se Young has won Singapore Open, Denmark Open, Indonesia Open and China Masters on the BWF World Tour alongside the BWF World Championships, Asian Championships and Asian Games gold.
Sindhu is also yet to defeat the Korean in 10 career meetings so far. They have already met at the Indonesia Open and Singapore Open respectively this season, with An Se Young winning in straight games on both occasions.
The Indian though will hope to take inspiration from the Chinese Wang Zhi Yi, who surprised the Korean with a superb performance in the All England Open final.
How PV Sindhu reached the final at the BWF French Open 2026
The two-time Olympic medallist advanced to the final of the French Open 2026 after defeating Japan’s Hina Akechi 21-10, 20-22, 21-16 in a one-hour-and-13-minute semi-final at the Arena Grand Paris on Saturday.
Sindhu started strongly, comfortably taking the opening game 21-10. However, Akechi held the lead through the latter half of the second game, with Sindhu briefly moving ahead at 16 all and held it for the next two points, but the Japanese shuttler managed to level the game to force a decider.
The decider saw a close contest, with the scores level at multiple points. Sindhu dominated most of the game before Akechi fought back to level the scores at 14-all and take a 16-15 lead.
But the Indian star remained error-free, winning six consecutive points to close out the decider 21-16 and seal her place in the final.
