Satwik-Chirag won the men’s doubles event at the Badminton Asia Championships in 2023.

The Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty and the women’s duo of Treesa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand have withdrawn from the Badminton Asia Championships 2026.

Coach Tan Kim informed PTI about Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty’s withdrawal from the upcoming tournament. He revealed that the World No. 4 pair wouldn’t participate in the tournament due to a shoulder injury sustained by Satwik. The South Korean coach said, “Satwik still has some pain, so they won’t be playing this week.”

Nevertheless, they might hope to return to full strength before the Thomas and Uber Cup commences on April 24.

The pair also withdrew from the Swiss Open last month due to the same injury. With their withdrawal, the duo of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun remain the only Indians in the men’s doubles competition.

Amsakarunan and Arjun have won back-to-back titles at the 2025 Al Ain Masters Super 100 and the 2025 TĂĽrkiye International Challenge. However, they will face the top seeds, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, in the first match.

P. Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K will also feature in the men’s doubles event, starting their campaign against Japan’s Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi.

Apart from Satwik-Chirag, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand has also withdrawn from the tournament, and the reason behind their absence is yet to be revealed.

However, the pairs of Ashwini Bhat K. & Shikha Gautam, Priya Konjengbam & Shruti Mishra and Kavipriya Selvam & Simran Singhi still remain in the tournament.

Apart from the doubles participants, India’s top hopes, Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu, will compete at the Asian Championships, aiming to help the side win singles gold for the first time in 65 years.

Former shuttler Dinesh Khanna remains the only Indian to win the men’s singles gold at the Asian Championship in 1965.

A returning HS Prannoy, alongside Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth, will also feature in the men’s singles event, with the latter two facing seeded opponents.

In the women’s singles event, Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma and Malvika Bansod will represent India, apart from two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu.

In the mixed doubles event, the duos of Rohan Kapoor and Gadde Ruthvika, Shivani Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh, and Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will represent India.

Why did Satwik-Chirag withdraw from Badminton Asia Championships 2026?

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have pulled out of the competition due to Satwik still recovering from his shoulder injury.

Which other Indians have withdrawn from Badminton Asia Championships 2026?

Apart from Satwik-Chirag, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand has also withdrawn from the tournament.

Where and when will Badminton Asia Championships 2026 take place?

The event will be held at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Ningbo, China from April 7 to 12.
