Swiss Open 2024: India's challenge ends with Kidambi Srikanth's semi-final loss

Kidambi Srikanth’s impressive run at the Swiss Open 2024 came to an end as he came up just short against Lin Chun-Yi from Chinese Taipei.
Srikanth’s semi-final appearance at the Swiss Open 2024 marked his first BWF semi-final since 2022. The match was both physically demanding and mentally challenging. The tournament was a bittersweet experience for Srikanth. While he made history by reaching the semi-finals, ending a series of disappointing early exits.
The match, which lasted over an hour, ended with Srikanth losing 21-15, 9-21, 18-21. Despite being a former world number one, Srikanth showed his talent and passion in the match, which was his first semifinal appearance in more than a year.
He started strong, winning the first game 21-15 with his skilled net play and aggressive shots. However, the second game saw a shift in momentum as unforced errors crept into Srikanth’s game. Lin capitalized on these lapses, taking the game 21-9 and leveling the match. The decider was a close affair, with both players exchanging leads. Srikanth managed to edge ahead at the interval, but in the final moments of match Lin took a crucial three-point lead.

Despite Srikanth’s efforts to close the gap, the pressure mounted, and Lin secured the win with an 18-21 score in the final game. This loss not only ended Srikanth’s run at the tournament but also concluded India’s challenge at the event with players like PV Sindhu, and Lakshya Sen failing to make a deep run into the tournament.
