Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia will eye strong comeback in upcoming Badminton championships.
Malaysia’s top badminton player, Lee Zii Jia, faced a setback at the Swiss Open. He lost to India’s Kidambi Srikanth in the second-round despite being the World No. 10. Jia experienced movement issues during the match, possibly due to a foot injury from earlier in the tournament.
Despite this setback, Jia’s Olympic dreams remain alive as he is still ranked within the top 16 in the Race to Paris List. His performance in Basel was below his usual high standards, but it does not affect his qualification for the Paris Olympics 2024, where he is expected to be Malaysia’s only representative in men’s singles.
During his match against Yang Su Li, Zii Jia fell, impacting his performance in the subsequent game against Srikanth, which he lost 16-21, 15-21. Moving forward, Zii Jia aims to excel in the Badminton Asia Championships in China.
This competition offers significant ranking points similar to a BWF Super 1000 event, providing a chance for him to improve his world ranking and secure a favorable seed for his second Olympic participation. The Olympic application deadline is approaching, and Zii Jia hopes to secure a strong position for the event.
