Lin Dan and Chen Jin have the highest of three titles each from Basel.
The Swiss Open, also recognized as the Open de Suisse, is an esteemed badminton competition held annually in Switzerland since 1955. Originally part of the BWF Super Series in 2007, it was later demoted to a Grand Prix Gold event in 2011. However, it regained prominence and now serves as a BWF Super 300 event as of 2023, underscoring its significance in the BWF badminton calendar.
Scheduled as the ninth tournament of the 2024 BWF World Tour, the highly anticipated Swiss Open 2024 will be hosted at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, from March 19 to March 24. With a total prize purse of US$ 210,000, it promises to be an electrifying event for badminton enthusiasts worldwide.
Defending champion and eighth seed Koki Watanabe is out from the opening round. 2015 champion Kidambi Srikanth hasn’t been in great touch, but advanced to the second round. All he’s seeking is a good run in the final years of his career. Srikanth usually likes to play in Basel. Can he get back to his winning streak here on?
Title favourites in men’s singles at Swiss Open 2024
Lee Zii Jia
A quarter-final finish at his hunting ground, unlikely of the other four consecutive semi-final appearances, the 2023 semi-finalist at Basel, Lee Zii Jia would like to better his mettle at the Swiss Open. An interesting match-up against Kidambi Srikanth may be on cards.
Kenta Nishimoto
Kenta Nishimoto has almost made it into the Paris Olympics 2024 as the second men’s singles player from Japan. A better seeding at Paris is what he might be aiming for here on. The clash against Rasmus Gemke is going to be very interesting.
Christo Popov
The Frenchman became the first from his country to make a semi-final appearance at the All England Open. He’s competing against his brother Toma Junior Popov for that one host qualification spot.

Loh Kean Yew
The 2021 World Champion has been trying to find a deep running spree for some time now. Loh Kean Yew finished the Thailand Masters as runner-up and is marching forward to defend his runner-up position from the upcoming Badminton Asia Championships. Been handed a decent draw on paper, he would look forward to grab a long missing title.
Kanta Tsuneyama
Kanta Tsuneyama had a decent 2023 season. Given he’s mathematically out of contention in the race to the Paris Olympics, it will interesting if he focuses on adding titles under his belt. Been handed a decent draw, he might like to capitalize the moment.
