2024 marks her last competitive season.
Tai Tzu Ying, born on June 20, 1994, is a Taiwanese badminton player. She is considered one of the greatest shuttlers to have ever graced the court. At the age of 22, she became the World No.1 in women’s singles in December 2016 and is the player who has held that title for the longest time in BWF history, with 214 weeks as of August 30, 2022.
Her first Olympic appearance was at the age of 18, where she lost to the eventual champion, Li Xuerui, in the Round of 16 at the London Olympics. In the same year, in September, she claimed her first Superseries title at the Japan Open, making history as the youngest player to win a Superseries title (then, currently third).
She has won the Asian Championships three times and the Asian Games once. She also holds the current record for the fastest smash in women’s singles, at 409 kph. The undisputed queen of deception has been on an unstoppable stride over the last decade and is undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time. Tai Tzu-Ying has announced her retirement plans, citing 2024 as her last competitive season.
