Thailand Open 2024: Live streaming, TV channel, where and how to watch
Tanisha Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa returns to action after Uber Cup miss.
The Thailand Open 2024 badminton tournament kicks off on May 14 at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, with India’s top shuttlers aiming for glory on the prestigious BWF World Tour event.
Leading India’s charge is World No. #9 HS Prannoy, the fifth seed and highest-ranked Indian singles player in the tournament. Prannoy will look to find top form ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Joining Prannoy in the men’s singles draw is the 34th-ranked Kiran George, who faces a stern test against China’s Weng Hong Yang, the recent Thomas Cup winner with the Chinese team.
However, India’s hopes were dealt a blow with the withdrawal of last year’s semi-finalist Lakshya Sen from the tournament.
The spotlight will also be on the top-seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the 2019 Thailand Open champions. After a successful year with three finals appearances, including a French Open title, the duo will look to regain their competitive edge ahead of the Paris Olympics.
In the women’s singles event, India will bank on the young brigade, including Malvika Bansod, Ashmita Chaliha, Aakarshi Kashyap, Unnati Hooda, and Imad Farooqui Samiya, in the absence of two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, who has opted out to focus on her Olympic preparations.
The fourth-seeded women’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, who have qualified for the Paris Games, will also be in action, receiving a bye into the second round.
In the mixed doubles category, the Indian challenge will be spearheaded by the combinations of SK Karunakaran-Aadya Variath and B Sumeeth Reddy-N Sikki Reddy.
