India won its first Thomas Cup title in 2022.

Draws for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 were held in Chengdu, the People’s Republic of China on Friday. The Indian badminton teams, both men and women, are set to make their mark in the tournament.

The Indian men’s team, who created history by lifting the Thomas Cup title in Bangkok in 2022, have qualified automatically for the 2024 championship. The Indian team famously defeated Indonesia 3-0 at the 2022 Thomas Cup final, marking their first victory in the competition. They will enter the tournament as defending champions.

India has been placed in Group C, which includes Indonesia, the most successful nation in the tournament’s history with 14 titles, a 1961 Runner-up, and a growing force in Badminton in Thailand and Dark Horse England.

On the other hand, the women’s team secured their place in the 2024 Uber Cup on the back of their unprecedented victory at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia earlier this year, where they clinched a gold medal. They will be competing against record 15-time winners China, ever-threatening Singapore, and Canada. The Indian women’s team has failed to reach the finals of the Uber Cup with its best finish coming in the semifinals in 1957, 2014, and 2016.

The tournament will be held from April 27 to May 5 in Chengdu, China. With the draws now announced, the teams are gearing up for the challenge.
