Sindhu had to skip the All England Open after getting stuck in Dubai for three days.

Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu was forced to miss the prestigious All England Open 2026, after getting stuck in Dubai for three days, while enroute to Birmingham.

Such was her misfortune, that the airspace got shut when she was in transit, following the growing unrest in the United Arab Emirates and other parts of West Asia due to the Iran-Israel War.

The shuttler had to endure a tough ordeal during this period. Her coach Irwansyah had an especially traumatic incident, when he had to vacate the airport and shift to a different hotel with various others, following a loud sound in the near vicinity. Much to the relief of her well-wishers around the globe, she managed to return home on Tuesday.

Such is the tenacity and grit of the two-time Olympic medalist, that she tried to find an alternate route to Birmingham even after that. However, it was virtually impossible for her to reach in time for her first-round match on Wednesday.

When will PV Sindhu be in action next?

The former World Champion has made it clear that she would want to set her best foot forward at the BWF Swiss Open set to start on 10th March. However, she will need a lot of things to go her way if she has to reach Basel by then. The 30-year-old from Hyderabad explained the situation during a virtual media interaction on Tuesday.

“The flights are full and everything is via Dubai, which is risky. I am looking at the various alternatives to go to Switzerland and trying every day. Let’s see what happens, considering that the war is still going on and it’s a sensitive matter. I can’t tell you anything because nothing is in my hands.”

“I don’t know when I can give you a final confirmation. I will need luck. If I get two tickets by chance, I will go with my Coach. If I get even one ticket, I’ll go alone. I understand that in this situation, every human being will want to see his/her family, so tickets are getting booked off immediately.”

While as a fan, one would be longing to see PV Sindhu back on court, it is very necessary to understand that these are very uncertain times. In such a scenario, while doing anything, it should be kept in mind that what is of paramount importance is the safety of the shuttler herself.
