Full list of players who have withdrawn from BWF World Championships 2025

This is the 29th edition of the BWF World Championships.
The BWF World Championships 2025, taking place from August 25 to 31 at the adidas Arena in Paris, has already seen a few notable withdrawals before the event’s main rounds began.
While most of the top players are still in contention, the absence of some key players has slightly changed the dynamics of the draw.
The most high-profile name missing from the men’s singles competition is Viktor Axelsen of Denmark. The reigning Olympic champion and two-time world champion pulled out earlier this month, citing an extended recovery period from herniated disc surgery.
His absence creates an open field in men’s singles, potentially boosting the chances of contenders like Shi Yuqi, Anders Antonsen, and Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Lee Zii Jia will be making his comeback at the World Championships 2025 after a brief injury layoff. The Malaysian star will be looking to regain his form and confidence. In the women’s doubles category, India’s top pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, withdrew around the draw date.
While the reason wasn’t specified, their absence is a blow to India’s medal hopes as they were considered one of the dark horses for a podium finish. Japan’s Mizuki Otake and Miyu Takahashi also pulled out from the same category post-draw.
From the men’s singles draw, the Czech Republic’s Jan Louda withdrew after the official draw was announced. Players like Joran Kweekel and the Chinese men’s doubles pair Huang Di and Liu Yang also opted out in the qualification round.
Despite these changes, the tournament still boasts a strong lineup, with top stars like An Se Young, PV Sindhu, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty aiming for glory in Paris.
Shi Yuqi, who fell to Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics last year, will be eager to turn the tables if the two meet again at the World Championships 2025, seeking redemption against the Thai star and reigning world champion.
