A total of five venues across the three countries will be hosting the games for the first time ever.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023 is the 19th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the quadrennial international basketball world championship contested by the men’s national teams of the member federations of FIBA. The tournament will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 is also a qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics 2024. The top two teams from the Americas and Europe (barring Paris 2024 hosts France who qualify automatically) and the top teams from Africa, Asia and Oceania will qualify for next year’s Summer Games.

Where and when will FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 take place?

The tournament will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.

Which teams are participating in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023?

A total of 32 teams, including basketball powerhouse USA, will compete for the title. Serbia, Australia, Japan, France, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Greece and the People’s Republic of China are some of the other top teams in the fray. Spain are the defending champions while the USA and Yugoslavia are the most successful teams in the competition with five titles each.

The 32 national sides have been divided into eight groups of four teams each for the first round, where teams in each group will face each other in a single-legged round-robin format. The top two teams from each group move to the second round while the rest drop down to the 17th-32nd classification matches.

  • Group C: United States, Jordan, Greece, New Zealand

  • Group F: Slovenia, Cape Verde, Georgia, Venezuela
  • Group G: Iran, Spain, Ivory Coast, Brazil
  • Group H: Canada, Latvia, Lebanon, France

In the second round, the 16 teams will be further divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two from each group will make the quarter-finals. The final on September 10 will be played at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines.
