India will not participate in 3×3 Basketball at the Asian Games 2026.
3×3 Basketball made its Asian Games debut at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. The 2026 edition will be the third time the sport has featured at the Games. China won the inaugural men’s and women’s events. In the previous edition, Chinese Taipei won the men’s tournament, and China won the women’s competition.
The 2026 edition of 3×3 Basketball will take place from 21 to 25 September at Kinjo-futo Station Square. A total of 16 teams will be divided into four groups in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
The top-ranked team from each group will qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams will compete in the play-ins. The winners of the play-in matches will then advance to the quarter-finals.
Six nations have won medals in the men’s event, while four nations have made the podium in the women’s competition. It will be interesting to see whether any team can stop China from completing a hat-trick of gold medals in the women’s event. Meanwhile, no nation has won multiple medals in the men’s competition so far.
From an Indian perspective, neither the men’s nor the women’s team was selected for the Asian Games after failing to meet the Sports Ministry’s selection criteria for major multi-sport events.
