India are at the bottom of the standings after window 1 of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers

The Indian basketball team is set to return to international action next month at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers as they host Qatar and Kazakhstan on November 22 and 25, respectively, at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai. This will be the second and third home game for India this year. India had earlier hosted Iran at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi in February.

Kazakhstan is second in Group E with four points. They are coming off a close win against Qatar, 68-73, in the first window. Qatar, on the other hand, sits third on the table. They lost a close game against Iran by 76-74.

India’s record against Kazakhstan in this decade is even but overall since 2009, it has been 2-4 in six games. The Indian cagers have given the Kazakhs a good fight but they tend to lose momentum after the second half and let the opponent grab the victory. The squads are yet to be announced but Kazakhstan’s Rustam Murzagaliyev can be a lock trouble as he scored 18 last time out.

Qatar and India are meeting each other after almost a decade, their last game was the 7-8 classification game in Changsha. Names like Yadwinder Singh, Arvind Arumugam and Vinay Kaushik feel like those of the past generations, but few of them can make the cut this time. Amritpal Singh, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and Amjyot Singh might be part of this window’s team.

The team also has a new head coach in Scott Flemming, a name synonymous with the gloried history of Indian basketball. Scott was the head coach when India defeated China at home, a moment that has been etched into the history of Indian basketball.

The Young Cagers team list can feature players like Muin Bek Hafeez, Sahaij Singh Sekhon, Pranav Prince, Princepal Singh, Kushal Singh, Arvind Kumar Muthukrishnan, Poiyamozhi Baladhaneshwar. The team is expected to be announced in mid of November.
