A look at India's medal winners at Commonwealth Games 2022

The nation clinched a total of 61 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The Commonwealth Games 2026 draws ever closer, with the Opening Ceremony slated to be held on 23 July. While the excitement ahead of a multi-sport event is always high, this edition is set to be a curtailed one with just ten sports.
Now it is a good opportunity to look back at the Indian contingent’s performance at the previous edition held in Birmingham in 2022. The country finished fourth on the table with 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze medals, bringing the total medal count to 61.
The sport of wrestling brought India the most success, with 12 medals, including 6 top-of-the-podium finishes- both of these being the highest for the nation- during the quadrennial event.
Table tennis was the second-best sport in terms of gold medals (4), while weightlifting was ranked second in terms of the number of medals (10). Weightlifting, boxing and badminton added three gold medals each to the total tally.
Achanta Sharath Kamal, at the age of 40, was India’s best athlete by far, winning four medals including three golds. Fellow paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran stood second with three medals, winning one in each colour. It is worth noting that both led the men’s team, which finished at the top of the podium.
While India clinched a silver medal in the Mixed Team event in badminton, the likes of Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu and Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy took home gold medals from their respective categories in the individual event. Moreover, Gayathri Gopichand/ Treesa Jolly and Srikanth Kidambi clinched bronze each.
Saurav Ghosal was the other Indian who pocketed multiple medals. One of his two third-place finishes was a historic achievement in the men’s singles event—the country’s first-ever medal in squash.
