A golden day is being unfurled for India in Glasgow today at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Asmita Dey won the nation’s first-ever gold medal in Judo at CWG, before Harsh Singh doubled the joy with a second gold medal.
Dey, competing in the -48 kg category at Glasgow, scripted history by beating Canada’s Heidi Quach on golden point.

The 23-year-old has previously won her semi-final bout also on the golden point, proving that she never bows to pressure.
Meanwhile, in the summit clash, Heidi Quach started off aggressively, trying to take an early lead. The Indian judoka later received a shido penalty and eventually ended up conceding a point.
However, Dey later balanced the score by winning a point. Both judokas contested against each other closely, and the game was eventually forced into the golden score, where the first athlete to register a score would claim the gold medal.
In the sudden death, Dey continued her aggressive style of play, and her attempts resulted in the most crucial point of the match.
Meanwhile, Harsh Singh defeated Joshua Katz of Australia to win India’s second gold medal at the games within an hour.
After beating Australia’s Pedro Carlos Antun Neto in the semi-final of the men’s -60 kg category, he was drawn against another Aussie, Joshua Katz, in the summit clash.

Katz is ranked lower than Harsh Singh in the world rankings; however, he fought fearlessly against the Indian judoka. The Aussie did not concede any points for the majority of the match; however, in the last few moments, Harsh Singh managed to win by waza-ari.
Before today, India never won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games; however, now, they have won two. The tally can move up to three, as Yamini Mourya will also be in action later tonight.
