Indian athletes will have the chance to add to the country’s growing medal tally on Day 8 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday, July 31. Currently, the country sits in eighth place with 15 medals, including three golds, nine silvers, and three bronzes.

The Indian athletics contingent will look to add to this tally on Day 8, with multiple medal events taking place. Tejaswin Shankar, who bravely overcame a knee injury during the men’s long jump event, is competing in the decathlon events, which culminate with the 1500m final on Friday.

India also have three representatives in the men’s javelin throw final, which takes place just after midnight IST. Neeraj Chopra, the former CWG gold medallist at the Gold Coast 2018 Games, will look to regain his title at the Glasgow Games, but he will face stiff competition from the rest of the field.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage topped the qualification rounds and will be a strong medal contender. Meanwhile, Neeraj’s duel with Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem will be a highlight of the competition.

Neeraj will be joined by fellow Indian javelin throwers Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh, who will also vie for a podium finish.

Besides athletics, India can add more medals to their tally as 10 boxers will take part in their respective events’ semi-finals. Lovlina Borgohain, an Olympic bronze medallist, is chasing her maiden CWG gold, and will face Tuvalu’s Tarona Taafaki for a place in the final.

India’s judokas – Harsh Singh, Rohit Majgul, Asmita Dey, Shraddha Chopade, and Yamini Mourya – begin their CWG 2026 campaign on Friday. They will take part in the preliminary rounds, each attempting to book a place in the medal event later in the competition.

India’s Nayanmoni Saikia, who won gold as part of the women’s fours team in Birmingham 2022, continues her singles run against Zambia’s Mwape. Meanwhile, the men’s pairs team will face the Falkland Islands.
