India will compete in at least five medal events on Thursday
Indian athletes have performed admirably at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, with the country winning 15 medals—three golds, nine silvers, and three bronzes—in the multisport tournament.
The weightlifting contingent has been brilliant in the competition, with six members clinching medals. India’s weightlifting medal tally can further increase on Thursday.

Later in the night, heavyweight weightlifting star Martina Maibam will compete in the women’s 86+ kg final. Lovepreet Singh, who won bronze in the Birmingham 2022 CWG, can earn his second consecutive medal in the tournament when he takes part in the men’s 110+ kg final.
Meanwhile, India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra will begin his campaign on Thursday. The two-time Olympic medallist will compete in the javelin throw qualification round alongside Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh.
Having missed the Birmingham 2022 Games through injury, Chopra will aim for gold, going head-to-head against his arch-rival, Arshad Nadeem.

All eyes will also be on Tejaswin Shankar, who was forced to withdraw from the long jump event because of a knee injury. Although the athlete said that he would do his best to compete in the decathlon events on Thursday, it remains to be seen whether he is fit enough.
In the evening, Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu will compete in the men’s triple jump qualification. The pair will look to seal a place in the final and emulate Eldhose Paul’s gold-winning performance at the Birmingham Games.
Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar will compete in the men’s lawn bowls pairs. Nayanmoni Saikia, part of the historic gold-winning women’s fours team in 2022, will take on Malaysia’s Emma Firyana Saroji in women’s singles.
