Why did Tejaswin Shankar withdraw from men's high jump final at Commonwealth Games 2026?

Tejaswin Shankar has withdrawn from the men’s high jump final at Commonwealth Games 2026 due to a suspected injury. Shankar’s name was initially listed as DNS (Did Not Start) on the official results website and the broadcast graphics before the start of the final.

The incorrect status suggested that only two Indian athletes would participate in the final. However, he eventually started alongside compatriots Sarvesh Kushare and Aadarsh Ram in the final.

Kushare completed his first jump at 2.05m, but Shankar failed his first attempt and was later seen padding his knee. He was also seen speaking with the officials, and soon, his participation in the competition ended.

Shankar was seen taping his knee before the final commenced, and the injury scare has raised concerns about his participation in the decathlon events, scheduled to begin tomorrow (Wednesday) in Glasgow.

There is no immediate official update on the magnitude of Shankar’s injury; however, fans will hope that he participates in the upcoming events with full strength.

Shankar won a bronze medal at the Birmingham 2022 Games. Meanwhile, his performance in combined events this season has been very promising, and he was seen as a outside candidate for a medal in the high jump final.

He also won the Asian Indoor Championships decathlon title in February with an Indian record of 5,993 points. Shanker is also the first Indian to cross the 8,000-point mark in the decathlon. The 27-year-old created the national record of 8,057 points at the Federation Cup in Ranchi in May.
