India at Commonwealth Games 2026: Athletics schedule, squad, live streaming details

A total of 125 Indian athletes will be in action at the 23rd Commonwealth Games.

India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is part of India’s 32-member athletics squad for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Scotland from 23 July.

Double Olympic medalist Chopra has not started his season yet after recovering from a back injury, but the AFI picked him for the 32-member team for the 2026 Glasgow Games. He also had to achieve the CWG qualification standard of 82.61m to seal his place in the final team.

Neeraj Chopra, who won gold at the 2018 edition of this tournament, last participated in the 2025 World Championship. He missed the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham due to a groin injury. Triple jumper Selva Prabhu also got the same leeway after winning the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championship with a distance of 16.92m.

The young Selva then had to compete in the Interstate, held last month, to secure his place in the Glasgow-bound team. AFI had set the qualifying mark of 16.89m for the upcoming edition. AFI had announced a 22-man and 10-woman athletics team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Many of these athletes qualified by breaking the marks at the Federation Cup and the Indian Athletics series in Ludhiana, which the AFI treated as the CWG selection trials. Only a few athletes were granted permission to break the entry standards in tournaments outside India.

Parul Chaudhary, who broke the 5000m national record in France last month, along with long-distance runner Gulveer Singh, shot putter Manpreet, race-walker Priyanka Goswami, and long jumper Lokesh Sathyanathan, were the exceptions.

Sprinters Gurvinder Singh and Animesh Kujur, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, ex-Asian champion shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, and pole vault national record co-holders Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar are also part of this list.

Vishal TK, who became the first Indian to run sub-45 seconds in the 400m, is now part of the mixed 4x400m relay pool with Rajesh Ramesh, Ansa Babu, Neeru Pathak, and Rashdeep Kaur.
