The first gold medal on Day 6 went to Malaysian weightlifter Nor-Ghazali

The Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow featured over 20 medal events on Day 6, across various disciplines such as athletics, para-athletics, 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball, weightlifting, swimming and para-swimming.

After a successful Day 5, India enjoyed another excellent day on the field, adding three medals to their tally, including one gold and two silvers.

History was made in the men’s 100m T47 dash as Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil M finished in the top 2, winning gold and silver, respectively.

2022 Birmingham runner-up Murali Sreeshankar repeated his heroics this time around as well, bringing home silver in the men’s long jump category.

The country also dominated the boxing field, with all six boxers who entered the ring emerging victorious in their respective quarter-final bouts. With at least six more medals now assured, India will hope to convert as many as possible into gold.

Updated Medal Tally after 29th July at Commonwealth Games 2026

Australia claimed another dominant haul on Day 6, extending their lead at the top of the medal table to 47 gold, 21 silver and 35 bronze medals (103 overall), remaining comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.

Canada held on to second place with 14 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals, staying ahead of England despite the latter owning a higher overall medal tally, thanks to Canada’s superior gold-medal count.

India climbed to the eighth position, after adding another gold medal (and two silver medals) to their collection.

It was another dominant night in the pool for Australia. Sam Short capped off a stellar meet with gold in the men’s 1500m freestyle, Brittany Castelluzzo took the women’s 200m butterfly, and Lakeisha Patterson won the women’s S9 100m freestyle.

The women’s 4x100m medley relay team added yet another gold to the tally, and Australia went on to sweep the podium in both the women’s 50m freestyle and men’s 50m butterfly.

South Africa’s Pieter Coetze wrapped up a clean sweep of the backstroke events, smashing the Commonwealth Games record in the men’s 100m backstroke along the way.

Meanwhile, teammate Chad le Clos became the most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history after South Africa took bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Athletics also went Australia’s way, with Eleanor Patterson matching the Games record to reclaim her women’s high jump title. Canada’s Sarah Mitton defended her women’s shot put crown, and Kenya’s Faith Cherotich took gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

Team events were another Australian stronghold, with gold in both women’s 3×3 basketball and men’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball. England, meanwhile, held onto their men’s 3×3 basketball title and added gold in the women’s 3×3 wheelchair event.

On the weightlifting platform, Australia’s Eileen Cikamatana dominated the rest of the field to win the women’s 86kg title, while Malaysia’s Mohamad Syahmi Bin Nor-Ghazali set a new Commonwealth Games record on his way to gold in the men’s 94kg.
