Commonwealth Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 8, July 31

The first gold medal on Day 8 went to Indian judoka Asmita Dey.

The Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow featured 21 medal events on Day 8, across various disciplines such as athletics, para-athletics, track cycling, and judo.

India enjoyed a tremendous day across sports on Day 8. The day commenced with incredible news from judo, as India won two consecutive gold medals, thanks to Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh. Yamini Mourya lost her final, but still won a silver medal in her first-ever Commonwealth Games appearance.

In track and field, India earned two medals in the javelin throw event. Poster boy Neeraj Chopra silenced his critics by winning silver, while Yash Vir Singh produced a clutch throw in his final attempt to clinch bronze.

Another standout result came through the men’s decathlon event, as Tejaswin Shankar won bronze in the discipline, becoming the first-ever Indian to do so. Shanker’s performance was commendable, given the rigorous and extreme fitness required to eventually prevail in decathlon.

All 10 boxers, who competed in the semi-finals went on to register convincing wins, assuring India of at least a silver medal.

In lawn bowls as well, the Indian men’s team registered their fourth straight win and will next take on England in what will be a virtual quarter-final.

Updated Medal Tally after 31st July at Commonwealth Games 2026

Australia extended its dominance after Day 8, leading the medal table with 55 gold, 30 silver and 43 bronze medals (128 overall). India stayed in 10th place, despite adding two gold, two silver and two bronze medals on Friday.

With swimming done, Australia also demonstrated its dominance on the cycling track. Blake Agnoletto claimed the men’s elimination race in track cycling, while teenage race walker Isaac Beacroft won the men’s 10,000m race walk.

Georgia Baker added another cycling gold before Oliver Bleddyn led an Australian clean sweep in the men’s 4000 m individual pursuit.

England enjoyed a strong night in athletics through Georgia Hunter-Bell’s commanding women’s 800m victory, while Acelya Toprak clinched the women’s 57kg judo title after a marathon final.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage produced one of the standout performances of the Games, throwing a Commonwealth Games record 89.75m to win the men’s javelin title.

Grenada’s Lindon Victor secured a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games decathlon gold, matching the legendary Daley Thompson’s feat.

South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile stormed to the men’s 200m crown in a sub-20-second run, while Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel dominated the men’s 400m hurdles to claim gold.

Wales celebrated victories through Olympic champion Emma Finucane in the women’s sprint and Olivia Breen in the women’s T38 long jump, while New Zealand’s Eliza McCartney upset favourite Nina Kennedy to win the women’s pole vault.

Jamaica’s Sanique Walker claimed the women’s 400m hurdles title with a lifetime best, and British Virgin Islands sprinter Adaejah Hodge powered to the women’s 200m gold, earning her nation’s third-ever Commonwealth Games title.
