Neeraj Chopra wins silver with season-best throw at Commonwealth Games 2026, Yash Vir bags bronze
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage took gold with a best mark of 89.75m
India achieved a historic double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, courtesy of stunning performances from Neeraj Chopra and Yash Vir Singh. Neeraj won his second CWG medal, with a silver following his gold at the 2018 Gold Coast edition.
Yash Vir, on his debut, takes home a bronze medal. World Leader Rumesh Tharanga from Sri Lanka justified his hype before the competition, finishing at the top of the podium.

Neeraj, the first-ever track-and-field Olympic medalist from India, achieved his season-best mark of 85.83 m. Yash Vir, meanwhile, overtook his own personal best by a massive mark with a distance of 85.41m.
Chopra started with a throw measuring 80.97m, putting him in the second spot behind Englishman Ben East.
However, one would have been acquainted over the years with how the former World Champion steps up when the going gets tough.

It was no different this time too, as he climbed up to the top spot with 85.83m, much to the delight of his crores of fans across the globe.
The joy was, however, short-lived, as Rumesh, who had achieved a distance of 92.62 m at the Rome Diamond League, recovered from his unsuccessful first attempt to send the spear to a distance of 89.75 m.
Chopra, the Tokyo Olympics gold and Paris Olympics silver medalist maintained his consistency but couldn’t achieve the killer throw this time.
His next throws measured 81.29m and 80.73m, which were pretty reasonable, considering that the conditions weren’t ideal with a low temperature and strong headwind.
Neeraj decided not to register his throws on the fifth and sixth attempts, eventually taking home a silver medal.
Yash Vir, meanwhile, started with a foul throw. While his second attempt worth 78.55m gave him decent momentum, his third attempt measuring 81.33 pushed him to the sixth spot.
The 24-year-old from Devsar, Haryana, seemed to have then been fizzling out with a foul throw and then one measuring 76.95m.
Out of nowhere, though, he pulled a rabbit out of his hat, sending the spear to a distance of 85.41m, pipping Douw Smit at the third spot.
