Commonwealth Games 2026: India’s medal tally after Day 7, 30th July

Lovepreet Singh and Seema Kaliramna won medals for India on Thursday

Just two medals were added to India’s tally on Day 7 at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, in what was an unproductive day for the contingent.

Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh improved upon his bronze medal in the previous edition to take home a silver this time. While a top-of-the-podium finish was on the cards, he heartbreakingly fell short.

With weightlifting having concluded, the contingent takes home eight medals—the joint-most as of the end of day 7 for a sport, along with track and field.

Following this, Seema made full use of her recent form to win a bronze medal in the women’s discus throw final. The total tally for India has now risen to seventeen medals, including three golds.

The other prominent result of the day was the men’s javelin throw qualifying round. Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra achieved a throw of 79.61m on his second attempt to eventually finish fifth and qualify for the final.

Fellow Indians Rohit Yadav (78.37m, ninth spot) and Yash Vir Singh (78.36m, 10th spot) also booked themselves spots in the summit clash, in what were extremely challenging conditions overall.

Lovepreet Singh put on a lion-hearted display in the men’s 110 kg+ final. All three of his attempts in the Snatch section were successful, with his best lift of 176kg placing him at the top spot, 10 kg ahead of David Liti.

With veteran Samoan Sanele Mao ending with three reds and thus a ‘DNF’ after the first half, the Indian seemed set for gold.

He then lifted 205 kg and 212 kg in the first two tries in the clean and jerk but couldn’t raise 217 kg. However, his rival from New Zealand lifted a stunning 223 kg on his second attempt, a whopping 16 kg increase over his first attempt.

Nevertheless, Lovepreet would be extremely proud of his performance. Earlier, Martina Devi finished fifth in the women’s 86+ kg event, with a total weight of 245 kg (105 kg + 140 kg).

Her last attempt in Clean and Jerk, measuring 146 kg, was unsuccessful, which would otherwise have given her a bronze medal.

In athletics too, India clinched a solitary medal on Thursday, with Seema pocketing a bronze in the women’s discus throw final.

Seema started off with a foul before her second attempt, measuring 57.32m, propelling her to the third spot. She did improve upon it, achieving a distance of 58.65m.

However, the ending was anticlimactic with three fouls. Compatriot Nidhi Rani had six successful throws but heartbreakingly finished fourth, with a best throw of 57.10 m.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor (best throw 20.27m) and Samardeep Singh Gill (20.03m) failed to finish on the podium in men’s shot put, as they finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

The former was especially consistent but failed to produce the killer throw. Parul Chaudhary also failed to impress in the women’s 5000m final, finishing thirteenth with a time of 15:08.56.

The results in cycling were extremely disappointing, too. Lisha Das finished last in the Women’s C4-C5 4000m Individual Pursuit Qualifying with a timing of 6:58.000.

So did the Indian men’s team comprising David Beckham, Ronaldo Singh, and Jemsh Singh in the sprint qualifying, with a timing of 46.396.
