India’s poster boy Neeraj Chopra clinched the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by finishing with a best effort of 85.83m. It came in his second attempt of the night. He couldn’t find another big throw after that as his final round ended in a foul, and his other attempts stayed in the low 80s.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, who was the leading contender, was simply sensational. He launched a monstrous 89.75m to take gold and deny Chopra his second Commonwealth title after his 2018 triumph on the Gold Coast.

The bigger surprise, though, came from Yashvir Singh. He produced a personal best of 85.41m at just the right moment to snatch bronze, edging out South Africa’s Douw Smit in a tense finish. It meant India walked away with two men on the podium in the javelin throw.
Rohit Yadav, the third Indian, missed out on a medal after finishing with 81.56 m. The result also capped a dramatic night in Glasgow, after defending champion Arshad Nadeem was eliminated after the first three attempts.
Despite finishing second, Chopra has proved his mettle once again, despite entering the competition on the back of multiple question marks from fans and critics. He continues to be one of India’s most reliable athletes and will now focus on further improving his form ahead of the Asian Games 2026.
