Harjinder Kaur has won two CWG medals so far
Harjinder Kaur continued the Indian weightlifting contingent’s brilliant performance in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. The 29-year-old claimed silver in the women’s 69 kg event at the SEC Armadillo on Tuesday.
Harjinder produced a snatch lift of 101 kg and a clean and jerk lift of 126 kg, finishing with a personal best total lift of 227 kg.
Despite this impressive performance, she had to settle for second place as Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau claimed gold with a CWG record total of 240 kg. Australia’s Nya Phebe Hayman took bronze with 218 kg.
Harjinder’s podium finish marked her second successive CWG medal after winning bronze in the women’s 71 kg weightlifting event at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

Harjinder Kaur’s Commonwealth Games journey
Kaur hails from Nabha in Patiala district, and has been one of India’s premier weightlifters in international competitions. She made her breakthrough at the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, registering a total lift of 211 kg and winning a silver medal.
She qualified for the Birmingham 2022 CWG, where she secured a bronze medal in the women’s 71 kg event. She produced a snatch lift of 93 kg and a clean and jerk lift of 119 kg, finishing with a total lift of 212 kg.
She competed at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Gandhinagar, claiming bronze in snatch with a best lift of 96 kg. She finished fourth overall with a total lift of 217 kg in the women’s 69 kg event.
Now, in Glasgow 2026, she has added a second CWG medal to her tally. She also improved her personal best, which earlier was 217 kg at the Asian Championships.

Indian President congratulates Harjinder Kaur
Kaur became the seventh Indian weightlifter to claim a medal in the ongoing Glasgow Games, and President Draupadi Murmu had some special words for her.
“Heartiest congratulations to Harjinder Kaur on clinching the Silver Medal in the Women’s 69kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026,” she wrote on X. “You have made India proud with your spirited performance. May you continue to scale new heights of success.”
Earlier, Mirabai Chanu bagged a gold medal in the women’s 48 kg event, marking her third gold at the CWG. Other than her, the other weightlifters who claimed medals at the Glasgow Games are: Rishikanta Singh (silver in men’s 60 kg), Raja Muthupandi (silver in men’s 65 kg), Valluri Ajaya Babu (silver in men’s 79 kg), Gyaneshwari Yadav (silver in women’s 53 kg), and Bindyarani Devi (bronze in women’s 58 kg).

The CWG 2026 will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
