Gulveer Singh then created history on the athletics track by clinching silver in the men’s 10,000m final, becoming the first Indian ever to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event. His podium finish highlighted India’s growing rise and dominance in track and field.
Indian boxing also enjoyed a decent outing, with Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, and Jadumani Singh all booking their places in the semi-finals to guarantee themselves medals, joining Lovlina Borgohain, whose podium finish had already been assured before the Games began.
Not every result went India’s way, though, as Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya bowed out in the quarter-finals. In weightlifting, Nirupama Devi impressed in the snatch but was unable to complete a clean and jerk, resulting in a DNF.
