Commonwealth Games 2026: India's medal tally after Day 10, 2nd August

India finished fourth on the overall Commonwealth Games 2026 medal tally.

The Commonwealth Games 2026 concluded on Sunday, with India failing to win any medals on the final day. Despite this, India clinched a total of 39 medals in Glasgow.

This has been a tremendous performance, considering that most of the sports in which India has traditionally done well, namely wrestling, badminton, shooting, etc., were absent here.

The competition had it all. From joy to despair. From comebacks to heartbreaks. Stories of grit and determination were written, with journeys beginning in humble circumstances.

Stars like weightlifter Mirabai Chanu lived up to expectations, while some other athletes showcased glimpses of their immense potential.

New household names emerged, right from para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar, who won India’s first medal in the 2026 Games, to Asmita Dey, who became the first-ever Indian judoka to clinch a CWG gold medal and long-distance runner Gulveer Singh, who became the first Indian to win multiple medals in athletics at the same edition of the CWG.

India performed far better than expected in this shorter edition. It is truly a significant platform, especially considering that Ahmedabad will host the next edition in 2030.

Medal events in which Indian athletes contested on 2nd August

Judo and track cycling were the only two sports on Sunday where Indians were involved. Among the three judokas, Ishroop Narang in the Women’s 78 kg category was the closest to clinching a medal. She started with a win by a solitary Yuko against home favourite Nicole Wood.

However, England’s Emma Reid defeated her by IPPON in the quarter-finals. While her win via a Waza-Ari in the repechage round against Cameroonian Georgika Wesly Djendgue brought her into medal contention, the nineteen-year-old heartbreakingly lost via a yuko during the golden score period against Coralie Godbout of Canada in the bronze medal bout.

Avtar Singh lost his Men’s 100kg R16 clash against Aristos Michael of Cyprus by IPPON, while Welsh Joshua Whitehouse downed Yash Ghangas in the Men’s +100kg R16 fixture, via a yuko.

India’s track cycling campaign ended without a single medal. In the Men’s 40km Points Race Qualifying Round, Harshveer Singh Sekhon failed to finish the race in Heat 1, while Dinesh ended eleventh among twelve participants in Heat 2 with four points.

In the men’s 1000m time trial final, Ronaldo Singh finished in 20th place with a timing of 1:04.191. Ultimately, India’s campaign concluded when Lisha Singh broke the existing Games record with a time of 1:34.410 in the women’s C4-C5 1000m time trial final; she finished last among the six competitors.

Commonwealth Games 2026: India’s final medal tally

India ultimately occupied the fourth spot on the medal table, behind Australia, England, and Canada. At the start of the day, there was a threat of Scotland crossing India, as they had the same number of golds with fewer silvers. However, the host nation could not finish at the top in judo or track cycling, as they secured only a silver medal on the final day.

India concluded with a total of 39 medals to its name, 13 golds, 17 silvers, and 9 bronze. Out of these, sixteen were won in athletics and para-athletics (three golds), ten in boxing (seven golds), eight in weightlifting (one gold), four in judo (two golds), and one in para powerlifting.

Clearly, track-and-field events provided India with the most medals, with para-athletes winning six medals, including all three golds.

Boxing was the sport that delivered the most gold medals for the nation. In fact, this was a significant turn in the story of these Games, as 10 boxers qualified for the semi-finals across 14 categories.

Remarkably, all of them won their respective bouts, and seven of them ultimately succeeded in securing the top spot on the podium.
