India sent an 11-member weightlifting contingent to the Glasgow Games
Indian weightlifters had a brilliant outing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026, with eight lifters from the 11-member contingent bringing home medals. This has powered India to fourth place in the overall medal tally, with the country having a total haul of 39 medals, including 13 golds, 17 silvers, and nine bronzes.
The spotlight was understandably stolen by the legendary Mirabai Chanu. The 31-year-old Olympian broke the Commonwealth Games record with a total lift of 190 kg in the women’s 48 kg event, clinching gold. It marked her third consecutive gold in the CWG, an unprecedented record in Indian sports.

Gyaneshwari Yadav made a new national record with a total lift of 199 kg in the women’s 53 kg event, clinching silver. Harjinder Kaur also won a silver in the women’s 69 kg event, while Bindyarani Devi won a bronze in the women’s 58 kg event.
The country’s male lifters were also extremely successful at the Glasgow Games, with all four of them – Rishikanta Singh, Raja Muthupandi, Valluri Ajaya Babu, and Lovepreet Singh – clinching silvers in their respective events.
Overall, the Indian weightlifters won one gold, six silvers, and one bronze, raking fourth in the overall athletics medal tally list at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
