Lovlina Borgohain is assured of a medal in the 23rd Commonwealth Games

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain appealed for support and aid for her home state, Assam. The state has been hit by pretty severe floods.

The 28-year-old pugilist is set to compete in the Commonwealth Games 2026 women’s 75 kg semi-finals, but has been preoccupied by the dire situation in Assam, which is battling one of its worst flood crises.

Borgohain took to social media to share a heartfelt message, speaking about the devastation caused by the floods. She appealed to her fans for help. She added that the condition has weighed down on her mind despite her ongoing CWG 2026 campaign.

“I am feeling very bad that a lot of people have lost their lives because of the flood in Assam. A lot of people are facing a lot of problems at this time,” she said. “A lot of people have lost their homes, and everything has been washed away. At this time, people are not getting food, water, clothes, and other necessities.”

“I am not able to focus properly here because of the condition of my people. I am trying to do my best. Our people are working hard to deliver the necessities to the people. The government is also doing its best,” she added.

“A lot of people from Assam are also coming out to help them. I need everyone to reach out to the people and help them. I request everyone to help us reach out to the people and deliver the necessities to them.”

Assam flood situation remains dire

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flood situation in the state remains critical on Tuesday. More than 4.45 lakh people have been affected across six districts in the Northeastern state. At least 68 people have died so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Union government is working in tandem with the state government to improve the situation in Assam and help those affected.

Borgohain, meanwhile, has already secured at least a bronze medal at the Glasgow Games. She is scheduled to face Tuvalu’s Tarona Taafaki in the semi-finals.

The Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
